Beautiful Art at Dearborn’s Glass Academy
It’s easy to sign up for one of their fun beginner classes
We had the pleasure of trying our hand at glass blowing in August at The Glass Academy in Dearborn, close to The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The Garden Reed class we signed up for was a fun introduction to making art, and a great way to spend time together to create something new for the gardens at Stag’s Leap. They offer a variety of classes designed for beginners, so regardless of your level of prior experience, you are guaranteed to have a great time. Founded in 2004, The Glass Academy provides a unique opportunity to explore the art of glassmaking in an inspiring and supportive environment. With a team of experienced instructors, students receive personalized attention, ensuring a meaningful and enriching learning experience.
Explore their Gallery
At The Glass Academy, they also have a beautiful gallery of unique items to take home. They offer a 20% discount to class participants, so we brought home two wall vases for the Pony Express Room. Now you can enjoy some of the flowers currently blooming in our gardens in more rooms throughout Stag’s Leap.
Classes to Choose From
One of the standout features of The Glass Academy is its diverse class offerings. From introductory sessions to specialized workshops, there’s something for everyone. Popular classes include:
– Glassblowing: Experience the magic of transforming molten glass into beautiful, functional art pieces. Learn the fundamentals of glassblowing and create your own unique works of art.
– Fused Glass: Explore the art of fusing glass pieces together to create stunning, custom designs. This class is perfect for those interested in crafting everything from colorful jewelry to intricate home decor.
– Garden Reed: This was the class we took, which offered a creative twist on glass art by focusing on the creation of delicate, garden-inspired glass reeds. We crafted vibrant pieces that capture the beauty of nature, and you get to choose your own colors, textures, and shapes to make one ideal for decorating any space in your yard.
Visiting The Glass Academy is more than just a creative outlet; it’s a window into the world of glass art and an opportunity to participate in a time-honored tradition. Whether you’re looking to dive into a new hobby, create a one-of-a-kind gift, or simply explore the beauty of glass art, The Glass Academy is the place to be. If your partner would prefer watching, guest tickets are also available to get the whole experience in their hot shop with a great view of every aspect of the class.
Renaissance Festival
The Glass Academy will be at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, just a few minutes west of Stag’s Leap during September. Watch their artisans work to create unique pieces of glass art as it’s been done for centuries. Their “Bosom Chillers” are certainly not an item we have ever seen before! You can purchase an array of their glass creations at the Renaissance Festival in Holly Michigan this month, where their focus is on fostering a deep appreciation for the art of glassmaking.
So, if you’re looking for something more interactive while venturing into the growing popular greater Detroit area, consider Dearborn’s Glass Academy and experience the beauty of glass art firsthand. It’s a place where artistry flourishes and every visit promises a new adventure in creativity the next time you visit us here at Stag’s Leap Farm.
